Frequently Asked Questions
How is required CFM calculated?
Room volume, area times ceiling height, is multiplied by the target air changes per hour, then divided by 60 to convert from an hourly rate to a per-minute rate.
What target ACH should I use?
It depends on the room type: roughly 4 to 6 for living spaces, higher for kitchens, bathrooms, and spaces with more contaminants or occupants. Check a ventilation guideline for your specific use case.
How is this different from the Air Changes Per Hour calculator?
This calculator sizes new ventilation equipment by finding the airflow needed for a target ACH. The Air Changes Per Hour calculator works the other direction, checking the ACH produced by a known, existing airflow rate.
