What is the difference between total and free available chlorine?
Free Available Chlorine (FAC) is chlorine still able to sanitize your pool. Total Available Chlorine (TAC) includes FAC plus chlorine that has already combined with contaminants (chloramines). The gap between them (combined chlorine) is what shock treatment breaks down and removes.
