What is a typical JPEG compression ratio?
JPEG compression commonly achieves ratios of 10 to 1 or higher depending on quality settings, meaning the compressed file is roughly one tenth the size of the uncompressed original, with some loss of image detail.
Why does bit depth affect file size?
Bit depth determines how much data is stored per pixel to represent color information — higher bit depth captures more color detail and tonal range, but directly increases the raw uncompressed file size.
Does PNG file size follow the same compression estimate as JPEG?
Not exactly — PNG uses lossless compression with typically lower compression ratios than JPEG, so PNG files are usually larger than JPEG files of the same image at a comparable visual quality.
