Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between APY and APR?
APY (Annual Percentage Yield) reflects the actual return earned in a year, including the effect of compounding. APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is the simple nominal rate without compounding factored in — APY is always equal to or higher than APR.
Why does compounding frequency matter?
More frequent compounding means interest is calculated and added to your balance more often, so you earn interest on interest sooner. Daily compounding yields a slightly higher APY than annual compounding at the same nominal rate.
How do I compare savings accounts?
Always compare APY, not the nominal interest rate, when shopping for savings accounts or CDs — APY gives you the true, apples-to-apples annual return.
