Why cant I just look up the direct rate?
Some currency pairs are thinly traded, so banks and traders quote them indirectly through a common, more liquid currency like the US dollar, and calculate the cross rate from those two quotes.
What if one of my rates is quoted the opposite way around?
Take the reciprocal of that rate (1 divided by it) before entering it here, so both rates share the common currency in the correct position.
