Frequently Asked Questions
How is EBITDA calculated?
EBITDA = Operating Profit + Depreciation Expense + Amortization Expense. It adds back two non-cash accounting charges to approximate cash operating profitability.
Why do investors use EBITDA?
EBITDA strips out financing structure, tax jurisdiction, and non-cash accounting choices, making it a common (though imperfect) way to compare operating performance across companies with very different capital structures.
