Frequently Asked Questions

How is futures contract profit/loss calculated?

Point Value = Tick Value x Ticks per Point. Profit/Loss = Point Value x (Selling Price - Buying Price) x Number of Contracts for a long position; the sign flips for a short position.

What is the difference between a tick and a point?

A tick is the smallest price increment a contract can move; a point is a standardized larger unit made up of a fixed number of ticks. Point value converts a price move directly into a dollar amount.
