Frequently Asked Questions
How is remaining loan balance calculated?
First the fixed monthly payment is computed from the original loan terms. Then Remaining Balance = Original Loan x (1+r)^k - Monthly Payment x [(1+r)^k - 1] / r, where k is the number of months elapsed and r is the monthly interest rate.
How is this different from the plain Loan Calculator?
The plain Loan Calculator only computes your monthly payment. This calculator instead answers a different question -- given a loan already in progress, how much principal remains after a certain number of payments.
