Frequently Asked Questions
How is net selling price calculated from cost and margin?
Net Price = Cost / (1 - Margin). Sales tax is then applied on top of that net price to get the final, tax-inclusive price the customer pays.
How is margin different from markup?
Margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price; markup is profit as a percentage of cost. They're related by Markup = Margin / (1 - Margin) -- a 20% margin equals a 25% markup.
