How is markdown percentage calculated?
Markdown Percentage = (Original Price - Actual Sale Price) / Original Price x 100, the same denominator convention used for a standard discount percentage.
How is markdown different from margin?
Markdown reduces the price a customer pays; margin measures how much of that price is profit above your cost. A large markdown can still leave a healthy margin, or eliminate it entirely, depending on your original cost.
