This is a simplified estimate using 2024 federal single-filer tax brackets and standard FICA rates. It does not include state income tax, local taxes, pre-tax deductions (401k, health insurance), or filing statuses other than single — your actual take-home pay will differ.
What is FICA?
FICA stands for the Federal Insurance Contributions Act, which funds Social Security and Medicare. It is a flat 7.65% of gross pay (6.2% Social Security + 1.45% Medicare) for most employees, used in this estimate.
Why is my actual paycheck different from this estimate?
Real paychecks also factor in state and local taxes, pre-tax retirement contributions, health insurance premiums, and your specific filing status and deductions — all of which this simplified calculator excludes.
