How is a combined VA disability rating calculated?
The VA does NOT simply add ratings together. Ratings are sorted highest to lowest, and each is applied to the remaining "non-disabled" percentage, not the original 100% -- for example, 50% + 30% combines to 65% (not 80%), which rounds to 70%.
Why does combined rating round to the nearest 10%?
The VA's compensation rate table only has entries at each 10% increment, so the combined rating is always rounded to the nearest 10% before looking up the monthly compensation amount.
