Frequently Asked Questions
How is Zakat calculated?
Zakat = Net Qualifying Wealth x 2.5%, but only if that wealth is at or above the Nisab threshold (a minimum-wealth exemption level). Below the Nisab, no Zakat is owed.
How is the Nisab threshold determined?
Nisab is based on the current market value of either 612.36 grams of silver or 87.48 grams of gold -- since these prices fluctuate daily, enter the current price per gram for an accurate threshold. The silver standard gives a lower (more inclusive) threshold and is preferred by most scholars for cash Zakat.
