What is the cholesterol ratio used for?
The total cholesterol to HDL ratio is a quick composite marker sometimes used alongside individual cholesterol values to give an additional perspective on cardiovascular risk.
Can a good ratio offset high total cholesterol?
Not really. A favorable ratio does not erase the risk from an elevated total cholesterol or LDL value on its own; the ratio should be interpreted alongside, not instead of, the individual values.
What is considered an ideal ratio?
A ratio under 3.5 is generally considered ideal, under 5.0 is considered good, and 5.0 or above is generally considered an elevated risk category.
