Frequently Asked Questions

What is the absolute eosinophil count used for?

It measures the number of eosinophils, white blood cells associated with allergic reactions, asthma, and parasitic infections, and can help identify or monitor these and other eosinophil-related conditions.

What is considered a normal eosinophil count?

A normal absolute eosinophil count is generally about 40 to 450 cells per microliter. Counts above 1,500 cells per microliter are considered hypereosinophilia and warrant further evaluation.

What causes a low eosinophil count?

Eosinopenia (a low count) is commonly associated with acute infection, physiological stress, or corticosteroid use, all of which can temporarily suppress eosinophil levels.

Is this calculator a substitute for medical advice?

No. This is an educational reference implementation of the standard absolute eosinophil count formula, not a substitute for a physicians clinical assessment.
