Frequently Asked Questions

What is QUICKI used for?

QUICKI (Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index) is a mathematically transformed alternative to HOMA-IR, also using fasting glucose and insulin, developed to have a more linear relationship with directly measured insulin sensitivity.

How does QUICKI compare to HOMA-IR?

Both use the same 2 fasting lab values, but QUICKI applies logarithms to produce a value that correlates more linearly with true insulin sensitivity measurements. Higher QUICKI values indicate better insulin sensitivity, the opposite direction from HOMA-IR.

What QUICKI value suggests insulin resistance?

Values below about 0.339 are commonly used as a threshold suggestive of insulin resistance, with a typical published reference range spanning about 0.45 in healthy individuals down to 0.30 in people with diabetes.

Is this calculator a substitute for medical advice?

No. This is an educational reference implementation of the standard QUICKI formula, not a substitute for a physicians clinical assessment.
