What is the TIMI Risk Score for STEMI used for?
It estimates 30-day mortality risk after an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI, a major type of heart attack), using 8 readily available clinical factors, to help guide risk stratification and treatment urgency.
What is Killip class?
Killip class is a simple bedside classification of heart failure severity after a heart attack, ranging from Class I (no signs of heart failure) to Class IV (cardiogenic shock), and is itself a strong independent predictor of mortality.
Why does time to treatment matter so much?
For STEMI, faster restoration of blood flow to the heart muscle (via angioplasty or clot-dissolving medication) is strongly associated with better outcomes, so a treatment delay over 4 hours adds to the risk score.
