Frequently Asked Questions
What is Yield to Maturity?
Yield to Maturity (YTM) is the total annualized return a bond investor earns if the bond is held until it matures, accounting for the purchase price, coupon payments, and face value at maturity.
Why does YTM need to be solved iteratively?
There is no closed-form algebraic solution for YTM when a bond makes multiple coupon payments, so this calculator uses an iterative numerical technique called the Newton method to converge on the exact answer.
