Frequently Asked Questions
How does age affect UK statutory redundancy pay?
The formula awards 0.5 weeks' pay per year of service under age 22, 1 week per year for ages 22-40, and 1.5 weeks per year for age 41+ — older, longer-serving employees receive proportionally more under UK law.
Is weekly pay capped?
Yes — UK statutory redundancy pay uses a capped weekly pay figure that is reviewed and updated periodically by the government, and also caps total years of service counted (typically at 20 years) — check current government guidance for exact figures.
Does this apply to all UK employees?
Statutory redundancy pay generally requires at least 2 years of continuous service and applies to qualifying employees made redundant — some employers also offer enhanced (above-statutory) redundancy packages beyond this legal minimum.
