Why use exact values instead of decimals?

At certain common angles (0, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degrees), sine, cosine, and tangent work out to simple expressions involving square roots and fractions, rather than long, non-repeating decimals. Exact values are more useful for further algebraic work and match what most textbooks expect.

How are these exact values derived?

They come from the side ratios of two special right triangles: the 45-45-90 triangle (used for the 45 degree values) and the 30-60-90 triangle (used for the 30 and 60 degree values), plus the trivial 0 and 90 degree cases read directly off the unit circle.

Why is this calculator limited to only five angles?

These five (0, 30, 45, 60, 90 degrees) are the standard reference angles with clean exact values that come up constantly in trigonometry courses. Every other angle either does not have a simple closed-form exact value or can be derived from these five using reference-angle and identity rules.
