Frequently Asked Questions

What is Heron's formula?

Heron's formula calculates a triangle's area using only its three side lengths, without needing to know any angles. It works by first calculating the semi-perimeter (half the perimeter), then applying a square root formula.

Can any three side lengths form a triangle?

No — the sum of any two sides must be greater than the third side (the triangle inequality). If your inputs don't satisfy this, the area calculation will return zero or an invalid result.

Does this work for right triangles too?

Yes, Heron's formula works for any triangle type — equilateral, isosceles, scalene, or right triangles — as long as you know all three side lengths.
