How is frequency related to semitones?
Each semitone represents a frequency ratio of the twelfth root of two, so moving up exactly twelve semitones (one octave) doubles the frequency — this calculator applies that exponential relationship from the A4 reference point.
How do I find the semitone offset for a specific note?
Count semitones up or down a standard piano keyboard from A4 to your target note — for example, middle C is nine semitones below A4, so you would enter negative 9.
