Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean is the arithmetic average — sum of all values divided by how many there are. The median is the middle value when the numbers are sorted. The median is less affected by extreme outliers than the mean.
When should I use median instead of mean?
Use the median when your data has outliers or is skewed, such as income or home prices. A few extreme values can pull the mean far from what is typical, while the median stays representative of the center.
What does the range tell me?
The range shows the spread of your data — the gap between the smallest and largest value. A small range means the values are clustered together; a large range means they are spread out.
