Frequently Asked Questions
Why does network speed use 1,000 instead of 1,024?
Network and internet speeds are measured in bits, not bytes, and the networking industry has always used the decimal 1,000 prefix convention, unlike file storage sizes which traditionally use 1,024.
Is Mbps the same as MBps?
No. Mbps (lowercase b) means megabits per second, while MBps (uppercase B) means megabytes per second, which is 8 times larger since one byte equals 8 bits.
