Frequently Asked Questions
Why is ppm the same number as mg/L here?
For dilute solutions in water, whose density is very close to 1 kilogram per liter, 1 part per million works out to approximately 1 milligram per liter. This is the standard approximation used throughout water treatment and environmental chemistry. For solutions with meaningfully different density, or for gas concentrations, the relationship changes and this shortcut no longer applies.
