Why would I be much older on Mercury?
Mercury orbits the Sun in just 88 Earth days, so a Mercury year is far shorter than an Earth year — completing many more orbits per Earth year means your age in Mercury years is much higher than your Earth age.

Is this based on the planet orbital period or rotation (day length)?
This uses orbital period (the planet year), not rotational period (the planet day) — a planet day length is a completely separate, often very different, measurement.
