Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a substitute for veterinary advice?

No. Consult your vet in case of any doubt, suspicious behavior, or worsening condition in your pet. Evaluate your cat condition first, and if anything worries you, call for help immediately.

Why does chocolate type matter so much?

Different chocolate types contain very different concentrations of theobromine and caffeine, the toxic compounds involved. Cocoa powder and baking chocolate are far more concentrated and dangerous per gram than milk chocolate, which is in turn more concentrated than white chocolate.

What do the dose thresholds mean?

A combined dose under roughly 15 mg per kg of body weight is generally considered low concern, while a dose above roughly 55 mg per kg is potentially fatal. Any dose in between still warrants contacting a veterinarian rather than waiting to see if symptoms appear.
