Feed Conversion Ratio Calculator
Chemistry & BiologyCalculate the feed conversion ratio for livestock from total feed consumed and total weight gained.
Feed Conversion Ratio
Pounds of feed consumed per pound of weight gained. A lower FCR means more efficient feed use.
Total Weight Gained
800.00
Total weight gained across the animals over the feeding period.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a feed conversion ratio of 2.0 mean?
An FCR of 2.0 means it took 2 pounds of feed to produce 1 pound of weight gain. A lower FCR is more efficient, since less feed is needed per pound of growth.
Why does FCR vary so much between different animals?
FCR depends on species, breed, age, diet quality, and health. Fish and poultry are typically far more feed-efficient than cattle, which is one reason feed cost per pound of product varies so much across livestock types.
How is this different from economic or technical FCR?
This is the basic FCR, feed divided by total weight gain. Economic FCR instead divides by the edible meat weight after processing, and technical FCR divides by the number of animals that made it to market, both narrower variations used for different business decisions.
