This calculator converts a decimal number back into hours, minutes, and seconds. Pick whether the number you have is decimal hours, decimal minutes, or decimal seconds, and it instantly shows the equivalent as a real h:mm:ss time, plus the whole hours, minutes, and seconds broken out separately.
This is the reverse of the more common hours-to-decimal conversion. Payroll software, spreadsheets, and time-tracking exports often store a shift or duration as a single decimal number, like 7.75, since that is easier to add and multiply by an hourly rate. But 7.75 is not immediately readable as a real clock duration until it is converted back, and that conversion is exactly what this calculator does.

How to Convert Decimal Time Back to Hours, Minutes, and Seconds
Start by converting the decimal value to a total number of seconds, since seconds are the smallest common unit. Decimal hours are multiplied by 3,600, decimal minutes are multiplied by 60, and decimal seconds are used as is. From there, the whole hours are however many full 3,600-second blocks fit in that total, the whole minutes are however many full 60-second blocks are left over, and whatever remains is the seconds.
For example, take 42.756 decimal hours. Multiplying by 3,600 gives 153,922 total seconds. That breaks down into 42 whole hours, 45 whole minutes, and 22 remaining seconds, shown in the table below alongside two more worked examples.

Converting Decimal Time to Hours and Minutes in Excel or Google Sheets
If you want a real time-formatted cell, divide the decimal hours by 24 and format the result as time. For a decimal value in cell A1, the formula is =A1/24, then format that cell as h:mm:ss. If you would rather see the whole hours, minutes, and seconds as separate plain numbers, use =INT(A1) for hours, =INT(MOD(A1,1)*60) for minutes, and =ROUND(MOD(MOD(A1,1)*60,1)*60,0) for seconds.
