Frequently Asked Questions

How is PMI calculated?

Annual PMI = Loan Amount x PMI Rate (typically 0.5% to 3% depending on credit score and LTV). Monthly PMI = Annual PMI / 12.

When does PMI go away?

Under the federal Homeowners Protection Act, lenders must automatically cancel PMI once your loan balance reaches 78% of the home's original value, and you can typically request cancellation once you reach 80%.
