Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 500 and 1800 rules?
These are common starting-point estimates: dividing 500 by total daily insulin dose gives an estimated carbohydrate ratio, and dividing 1800 by total daily insulin dose gives an estimated insulin sensitivity factor. A prescriber individualizes both from there.
Is this a substitute for medical advice?
Insulin dosing errors can cause severe, immediate harm. This tool is for education only. Never adjust a real insulin dose without your prescribing clinician.
