Frequently Asked Questions

What is Relative Fat Mass (RFM)?

RFM is a formula that estimates body fat percentage using just your height and waist circumference. Research has shown it can be more accurate than BMI at identifying excess body fat, since it accounts for fat distribution rather than just overall weight.

How is RFM different from BMI?

BMI only uses height and weight, so it cannot distinguish between muscle and fat. RFM instead uses waist circumference relative to height, which more directly reflects body fat.

What is a healthy RFM?

Healthy ranges vary by sex. For men, an RFM in the athletic-to-average range (roughly 6-24%) is typical. For women, the equivalent range is roughly 12-31%. Values well above these are classified as obese.

Do I need any special equipment to measure RFM?

No, you only need a tape measure for your waist circumference and your height. No scale, calipers, or body scan is required.
