Frequently Asked Questions

What is functional sperm count?

Functional sperm count combines volume, concentration, motility, vitality, and morphology into a single estimate of sperm that are simultaneously alive, moving correctly, and normally shaped.

What are the WHO reference values for a normal semen analysis?

World Health Organization lower reference limits include ejaculate volume of at least 1.5mL, sperm concentration of at least 15 million/mL, total motility above 32%, normal morphology of at least 4%, and vitality of at least 58%.

Does a low functional sperm count mean infertility?

Not necessarily. Semen analysis parameters vary naturally between samples and over time, and a single low result does not diagnose infertility on its own. A fertility specialist typically reviews multiple samples and additional factors.

Should I use this instead of a lab report?

This calculator is an educational reference only. Always review your actual semen analysis results with a doctor or fertility specialist, who can interpret each parameter individually against clinical reference ranges.
