Frequently Asked Questions
What is a binomial coefficient?
The binomial coefficient "n choose k" counts how many different k-element subsets can be formed from a set of n elements, without regard to order. It also gives the coefficients in the expansion of (x+y)^n, hence the name.
How is this different from the permutation and combination calculator?
This is the narrower, single-purpose version focused only on the combination case. The permutation and combination calculator also computes the ordered (permutation) version alongside it.
What is a real example of this?
4 choose 2 equals 6, since there are exactly 6 different ways to pick 2 items out of a set of 4, ignoring the order they're picked in.
