Cofunction Value

0.707107

The value of the cofunction at (90 - angle) degrees, which by the cofunction identity always equals the original function evaluated at the given angle.

Cofunction

Frequently Asked Questions

What are cofunction identities?

They relate a trig function of an angle to the complementary function (sine and cosine, tangent and cotangent, secant and cosecant) evaluated at the complementary angle (90 minus the original angle): sin(90-x) = cos(x), tan(90-x) = cot(x), and sec(90-x) = csc(x).

Why does this work?

In a right triangle, the two non-right angles always add up to 90 degrees. What is opposite one angle is adjacent to the other, so a function of one angle automatically equals the corresponding cofunction of the other.

Why is the angle input limited to 0-90 degrees?

Cofunction identities are most directly meaningful for angles that could be one of the two acute angles in a right triangle, which always fall between 0 and 90 degrees.
