Frequently Asked Questions

What is a factorial?

A factorial (written n!) is the product of all positive integers from 1 up to n. For example, 5! = 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 120.

What is 0 factorial?

By mathematical convention, 0! equals 1, not 0. This is a defined rule used to make formulas in combinatorics and probability work correctly.

Why does the calculator limit input to 170?

Factorials grow extremely fast — 170! is already close to the largest number standard computer arithmetic can represent accurately. Beyond this, results lose precision or overflow.
