What is the difference between combinations and permutations?
Permutations count arrangements where order matters (ABC is different from BCA). Combinations count selections where order does not matter (ABC and BCA are the same group).
When should I use nCr instead of nPr?
Use combinations (nCr) when you're selecting a group without regard to order, like choosing a 3-person committee. Use permutations (nPr) when order matters, like ranking the top 3 finishers in a race.
What happens if r is greater than n?
It's impossible to choose or arrange more items than exist in the set, so both combinations and permutations return 0 when r exceeds n.
