How is area calculated from just the bases and leg?
The height is first derived from the leg and the base difference using the Pythagorean theorem, exploiting the trapezoid's left-right symmetry, then the standard area formula, average base times height, is applied.
Is there an alternative formula using the diagonals?
Yes, if you know the diagonal length and the angle between the diagonals, area can also be calculated as one half times the diagonal squared, times the sine of that angle, an alternative approach that does not need the bases directly.
