What is percent error used for?
Percent error measures how accurate a measured or experimental value is compared to a known true or theoretical value, commonly used in science experiments and quality control to judge measurement accuracy.
Why is the difference taken as an absolute value?
Percent error is meant to describe the size of the discrepancy, not its direction, so the absolute value keeps the result positive whether the experimental value was too high or too low.
What counts as a "good" percent error?
It depends entirely on the context. In some fields, under 1% is expected; in rougher measurements or estimations, 10% or more may be considered acceptable. There is no universal threshold.
