Ratio Calculator
MathSolve a proportion A:B = C:D for the missing value D, and see the simplified form of A:B.
D
The missing fourth value that keeps A:B equivalent to C:D.
Simplified A:B
2:3
A:B reduced to its simplest whole-number form using their greatest common factor.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the ratio calculator solve for the missing value?
It uses cross multiplication: since A:B = C:D means A/B = C/D, cross multiplying gives A*D = B*C, so D = (B*C)/A.
How is this different from the proportion calculator?
This is the comprehensive version, both solving the proportion and showing the simplified form of A:B. The proportion calculator is a narrower, single-purpose version focused only on solving for the unknown value, with the unknown in a different position (A/B = C/D, solving for C given A, B, and D).
What does the simplified ratio show?
It divides both A and B by their greatest common factor, reducing the ratio to the smallest whole numbers that represent the same proportion, for example simplifying 6:8 down to 3:4.
