Frequently Asked Questions

Should online store prices be shown in the local currency of the buyer?

Many online stores localize displayed prices to the currency of the buyer country to reduce checkout hesitation, since a price in an unfamiliar currency reads as effortful to evaluate. Localizing the displayed price does not have to mean settling payment in that currency, that part is handled separately by the payment processor.

How do international card payments actually get converted?

When a customer pays in their own currency, the card network or payment processor converts the sale back into the settlement currency of the store using their own rate at the moment of the transaction, not necessarily the exact market rate shown here.

Does this converter account for payment processor fees?

No. This shows the live market exchange rate only. Payment processors and card networks typically add their own currency conversion fee, commonly in the 1 to 3 percent range, on top of the rate shown here.
