Why is the roof area larger than the footprint?
The footprint is the flat, bird's-eye-view area, but the actual roof surface is tilted at the roof pitch, so its real surface area is larger. The pitch multiplier accounts for this using the roof slope.
Does this include flashing, screws, or trim?
No, this estimates panel material cost only. Ridge caps, flashing, trim, and fasteners are typically priced and ordered separately.
What if I know the actual roof dimensions instead of the footprint?
If you already have the true sloped roof length and width, set the pitch to 0 and enter those measured dimensions directly as the footprint values, since a pitch of 0 applies no multiplier.
