How deep should the bedding sand layer be?
1 inch is a standard bedding sand depth for most paver patios and walkways, the default here. Some applications, such as under permeable pavers, may call for a deeper sand or aggregate base, check your specific paver manufacturer instructions.
Is this the same sand density as the Aggregate Calculator?
Yes, this uses the same 100 pounds per cubic foot sand density already sourced and used elsewhere on this site, equal to about 1.35 tons per cubic yard, for consistency.
Does this include a gravel base layer below the sand?
No, this calculates the thin bedding sand layer directly under the pavers only. A compacted gravel base layer beneath that, if your design calls for one, should be calculated separately.
