Frequently Asked Questions
How is the rebar grid calculated?
The slab dimensions, minus clearance from each edge, define the grid area. Dividing by the spacing gives the number of bars running in each direction, and multiplying each bar count by the length it needs to span gives the total linear footage.
What spacing should I use?
12 inches on-center is a common spacing for residential slab-on-grade rebar, though your project's engineering drawings or local code may specify a different spacing based on the slab's load requirements.
Does this include rebar chairs or tie wire?
No, this calculates the rebar length and piece count only. Rebar chairs, used to hold the grid at the correct height within the slab, and tie wire for securing intersections, should be estimated and purchased separately.
