What is a rolling offset?

A rolling offset is a pipe offset that changes direction in two planes at once, both horizontally and vertically, rather than a simple offset in a single flat plane. The true offset combines both distances into a single straight-line measurement using the Pythagorean theorem.

Why is 45 degrees the most common fitting angle?

45 degree fittings are the most commonly stocked and used for offsets because they give a good balance between a compact turn and smooth flow, with a well-known travel-length multiplier of about 1.414 times the true offset.

What is the difference between travel and run?

Travel is the actual length of pipe needed for the diagonal section between fittings. Run is how far that diagonal section advances along the original direction of the pipe, always shorter than the travel length for any angle less than 90 degrees.
