How is round pool volume calculated?
The pool is treated as a cylinder: its circular surface area, pi times radius squared, is multiplied by the average depth, then converted from cubic feet to gallons using 7.48 gallons per cubic foot.
What if my pool has a shallow and deep end?
Use the average of the shallow and deep depths as the average depth input. For a round pool this is usually a simpler, more uniform depth, but the same averaging approach works if it varies.
Why is this useful beyond just curiosity?
Knowing total pool volume is needed to correctly dose pool chemicals, size a pump or filter, and estimate how long it takes to fill or drain the pool at a known flow rate.
