How is baby milk intake estimated?
This calculator multiplies your baby weight by an age-specific milk requirement rate, then divides by the number of daily feedings to estimate the amount per feeding.
Why does the rate change so much by age?
Newborns need relatively little milk per kilogram of body weight in their first few days, but requirements rise quickly in the first month before gradually decreasing again as babies start eating solid foods later in the first year.
Is this the same for breastfed and bottle-fed babies?
This calculator estimates general breast milk intake needs. Formula-fed babies typically follow a similar but slightly different set of age-based guidelines, covered by our separate baby formula calculator.
