What is the Revised Geneva Score used for?
The Revised Geneva Score estimates the clinical probability of pulmonary embolism using only objective clinical criteria, without requiring the subjective clinical gestalt judgment that some other PE scores like Wells use.
How is Revised Geneva different from Wells Criteria?
Both estimate PE probability, but the Revised Geneva Score relies entirely on objective findings, while the Wells Criteria includes a subjective clinical judgment component (whether PE is the most likely diagnosis).
What happens with a low-probability result?
For low or intermediate probability results, a D-dimer blood test is typically the next step; a negative D-dimer can often reasonably exclude PE without needing imaging.
