What TTKG value is expected with low potassium?

With serum potassium below 3.5 mmol/L, a TTKG under 3 is expected as a normal response. A TTKG above 3 in this setting suggests inappropriate renal potassium wasting.

What are the requirements for a valid TTKG result?

TTKG is only considered valid when urine osmolality is at least 300 mOsm/kg and urine sodium is at least 25 mmol/L, since the formula assumes ongoing water reabsorption in the collecting duct.
