Frequently Asked Questions

What is a right circular cone?

A right circular cone has its apex positioned directly above the center of its circular base, so the height forms a right angle with the base. This is different from an oblique cone, where the apex is off to one side.

Why does the slant height need to be larger than the radius?

The height, radius, and slant height form a right triangle where the slant height is the longest side (hypotenuse). If the slant height is not larger than the radius, the shape is not a valid cone.

How do I find height from volume instead of slant height?

If you know the volume V and radius r instead, use height = 3*V/(pi*r^2).
